Auto insurance plans are plans sponsored by the state for those who cannot get insurance from private companies. Generally auto insurance plans are expensive and have limited coverage. This type of auto insurance is usually for those who are required by the law to carry the SR-22.

Aside from the state sponsored auto insurance plan, there are also auto insurance plans that are offered by auto insurance companies. Many people do not actually know that most insurance companies offer different plans with corresponding premium and coverage. These plans are designed to make insurance very affordable and this is where auto insurance companies try to provide the best coverage at the lowest rate.

In today’s economy, insurance companies know that in order to be the most competitive, they must offer the best product at the most affordable price, like any other companies out there. This is because people today are trying to save money and this includes saving money from their insurance. For insurance buyers, this is of course good news since they now have wider range of choices for their insurance.

Of course the price is your major consideration in choosing the auto insurance plan. However, you should also know that there are other important factors that you should consider when choosing for the right plan for you. First, you should know that statistic says that a driver gets involve in an accident at least once in five years. Aside from this, drivers also regularly have traffic violations. Now what this means is that although companies offer different plans, your premium may still be a little bit higher than the standard plan if you are among the drivers who had accidents and road violations. Now, if you are one of the very cautious drivers who had not had any accident and violation, then you can of course get the best plan. Moreover, you can even get additional discounts, such as good driver discount.

The next thing that you should consider is whether the plan is appropriate for your needs. For instance, if you are insuring a sports car or an antique car, you should get the type of insurance that is for sports and antique cars. Even if you can get insurance plans for these types of car, you should make sure that they will protect your vehicle in case of an accident.

Lastly, you should check if the insurance company is accredited by your state. They may offer you the best plan but you should make sure that they can deliver your claims in case of an accident. And one way to do that is to check with your state if it is state accredited.

Auto insurance laws vary from state to state although all states require drivers to have the minimum bodily injury and property damage coverage or proof of financial responsibility that is equal to the required minimum bodily injury and property damage insurance. The required bodily injury and property damage coverages protect the insured person for any damages and other claims resulting from the accident. The following are the minimum insurance per state as required by the law:

Alaska 50/100/25

Alabama 20/40/10

Arkansas 25/50/15

Arizona 15/30/10

California 15/30/5

Colorado 25/50/15

Georgia 15/30/10

Hawaii 20/40/10

Idaho 20/50/15

Illinois 20/40/15

Indiana 25/50/10

Iowa 20/40/15

Mississippi 25/50/25

Missouri 25/50/10

Montana 25/50/10

Nebraska 25/50/25

New Hampshire 25/50/25

New Jersey 15/30/5

New Mexico 25/50/10

Nevada 15/30/10

New York 25/50/10

North Carolina 30/60/25

North Dakota 25/50/25

Ohio 12.5/25/7.5

Oklahoma 10/20/10

Oregon 25/50/10

Pennsylvania 15/30/5

Rhode Island 25/50/25

South Carolina 15/30/10

South Dakota 25/50/25

Tennessee 25/50/10

Texas 20/40/15

Utah 25/65/15

Virginia 25/50/20

Vermont 25/50/10

Washington 25/50/10

Wisconsin 25/50/10

West Virginia 20/40/10

Wyoming 25/50/20

The first two numbers represent the required bodily injury liability limits while the last number represents the property damage liability limit. So, in the case of Wyoming, 20/50/20, in case of an accident, each person who got injured in the accident would get a minimum of up to $20,000 with up to $50,000 per accident. As for the last number, 20, it is for the property damage which means that the insurance will pay up to $20,000 per accident.

As each state has its own auto insurance law, each state also regulates its auto insurance companies. This means that there is no federal agency that regulates auto insurance companies. Usually the regulatory agencies in the different states are named Department of Insurance, Insurance Bureau, Division of Insurance or others. These agencies are headed by the state official who may have the title of Director of Insurance, Insurance Commissioner or other similar designation. Basically these agencies ensure that the insurance companies abide with the state regulations and auto insurance laws. They also make sure that the insurance companies are financially stable to pay for the claims of the policy holders. So if you have any questions regarding your insurance provider, such us whether it is accredited by the state, you should contact the agency that oversees the insurance companies of your state.

Automobile liability insurance also known as auto insurance or even car insurance. It is the type of insurance that is purchased by vehicle owners for the different types of motor vehicles, from cars to trucks to motorcycles and other motor operated vehicles. Automobile liability insurance protects the owner from financial losses incurred from a vehicular accident. This type of automobile insurance generally covers the insured party, the insured vehicle, the car and people that were involved in the accident or the so called third parties and the vehicle and other properties damaged as a result of the accident.

In the United States, the automobile insurance is compulsory although the requirements vary from state to state. The enforcement is also different from state to state. For instance, New Hampshire does not require drivers to have liability insurance and in Virginia, the drivers must pay a fee for each vehicle they own if they do not want to buy insurance. In most cases where the state does not require vehicle owners to have automobile insurance, they must still show some proof of financial responsibility. In some states however, the law is strict and vehicle owners and drivers must purchase the minimum auto insurance coverage required by the state before they can register their vehicle. In these states, driving without insurance may result in jail time and fines. Drivers caught driving without insurance may also have their license suspended and before they can get their license back they must have the required insurance coverage.

The premium for automobile liability insurance coverage will actually depend on several factors. Most insurance rates will be within the average premium in that particular state. Of course other factors may affect the price such as the type of car, the coverage limits, the deductible and the covered perils. Aside from these the gender of the driver or owner is also taken into consideration. Male drivers generally have higher rates than female, age is also a major factor. For instance, teenage drivers have a higher automobile liability insurance premium than the regular adult driver. The same goes for senior citizens.

At the same time, insurance companies also offer discounts. So if you are in the market for auto insurance you should check out the different discounts offered by these companies. For instance, almost all auto insurance providers have safety feature discounts for cars which have additional safety features equipped.
